Foundations for the future

Building work has now begun on our new capital-build project at the rear of the existing Town Hall. This riverside development will include both community and enterprise facilities for our town, building a real focal point for local life which will hope will be a landmark for many, many years to come.

We are delighted to have secured a grant from the European Regional Development Fund of a little over £1.2m. We have also received funding (part grant, part loan) from the Communitybuilders fund of a little over £2m. This, plus smaller but very welcome contributions from other sources, gives us the capital we need to progress with the overall project. We have now launched an appeal for some finishing touches which we would like to have but can't at the moment fund (such as York stone for the riverside courtyard). Details here.

The pictures above and below show how the new buildings will look. Our architects have worked very hard to produce a quality modern design which also integrates well with the existing fine Victorian building.
