A special place for a special day:

have your civil partnership in Hebden Bridge's beautiful Town Hall

If you're making plans for your civil partnership, make sure you've talked to us about the possibilities of holding the ceremony in Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

When the Town Hall became community-owned in 2010, one of the first changes we made was to get the necessary licence, so that civil partnerships and weddings became possible for the first time in Hebden Bridge. Since then, our beautiful building in the heart of Hebden Bridge has played host to several memorable civil partnership ceremonies. We'd welcome the chance to host your event, too.

We can offer something different from the feel of an anonymous registry office or hotel suite. We can also offer to work closely with you in planning your event.

At present, ceremonies take place in the Town Hall Council Chamber (shown below). The room, dating back to 1898, is wood-panelled with a fabulous plasterwork ceiling - and with views out across Hebden Bridge to the hills beyond.

From Spring 2012 we will also be able to offer our brand-new Waterfront Hall, built alongside the river Hebden. You'll be able to choose whether to have the ceremony in the traditional surroundings of the Chamber or in the Waterfront (which will take up to 200 people). Or you'll be able to mix and match, holding the Ceremony in the Chamber and then have the function afterwards in the Waterfront. As part of our civil partnership package at the Waterfront, parties will have exclusive use of the riverside courtyard.

We're finding that Hebden Bridge Town Hall is proving popular for civil partnerships not only with local couples. Hebden Bridge itself is a lively town set in the Pennine hills, with a strong community life and a fantastic range of interesting independent shops and restaurants. In fact, the town has been voted the 'least cloned' High Street in the country. One magazine recently declared it the 'fourth funkiest town' in the world, behind communities in Australia, Brazil and Vermont. And could it be that this is connected to the fact that (at least according to Wikipedia) Hebden Bridge has the highest number of lesbians per head of anywhere in Britain?

We hope you'll be able to support some of our local businesses (several of which are gay and lesbian owned). If you want, we can put you in touch with - among others - local florists, photographers and video-makers, home furnishing shops, printers, and bands to help you make the arrangements for your event as straightforward as possible.

You'll be dealing primarily with two of us. Sue Graham, our Administrator, will be able to discuss dates and times with you - you'll reach her on 01422 845261. Sue will also put you in touch with Gwen Goddard, who is our trustee who has been given a particular responsibility for wedding/civil partnership arrangements and who will be delighted to discuss your likely requirements.

We look forward to hearing from you. And when you're ready, here's the booking form.
